The Empress of Fortune is about a young girl Belinda Mulrooney who is forced to leave everything she knows and loves when her parents send for her to join them in 1880s America. The inspiration behind the cover art is Belinda (spoiler) opens up a Pretzel store in America. I really wanted to display the pretzels and display her Irish heritage by showing an Irish inspired quilt representing her past and who she is. At the same time encompassing her future entrepreneurship. I've always admired novels where you don’t know the cover art reference until you’ve read the novel.
